Atlantic's FilterFalls are up-flow filters. Water flows from the pump through the bulkhead fitting into the swirl chamber at the bottom of the filter enclosure; then through the grate and filter mat where solids are removed; and lastly through the media bag and filter material; then out over the spillway. Various plastic materials and mats, or natural materials such as lava rocks, sand, gravel and plants (not supplied) may be utilized as filter media.
